In 1897 Robert Bevan left the family farm in West Wales to make his fortune in the big city. As one of thirteen children he didn't see much future for himself in the family business!
He opened a store opposite Cardiff Castle selling pots, pans, guns and bicycles for the first couple of years. He then started selling motorcycles and obtained agencies for most of the larger British makers. His son Staff took over the business and in the early 1960s he took on the agency for Honda motorcycles, soon to be followed by Suzuki and Piaggio.
Robert's grandson Geoff took over about 20 years ago and still runs the business with his wife Veronica and the rest of the team (Rob, Jethro, Jeanette, Sean, Chris, Chris, John and now 3 fourth generation Bevans, Charles, Ben and Jamie, when they are not at college).
Apart from new and used bikes, the sale of motorcycle clothing is an important part of the business. We were one of the first stockists of Frank Thomas clothing in the UK and have stocks of Dainese, Daytona, Oxtar, Yes and Lewis clothing. Helmets are stocked from Shoei, Arai, Dainese, Shark, Roof etc.
Geoff met Angelo Dainese at the 1993 Milan motorcycle show, was most impressed with the Dainese range of products, and early in 1994 became their stockists for Wales. Dainese is now the most important product, other than motorcycles, sold by the company. We became a Dainese Pro Shop in 2003(one of five in the UK) - Rossi, Biaggi and many other world champions and top class racers can vouch for the quality and safety of the product.
In 1998, after 101 years in Castle Street, the business moved to new purpose built premises in Hadfield Road. We have a great selection of new and used motorcycles and scooters, a rider training school on site and a huge clothing and accessory department. We're close to junction 33 of the M4 motorway and have loads of free parking for cars and bikes. Maybe we'll stay here for the next 100 years!
